Use Kide with AI
Kide has a remote MCP server, so AI assistants can work with your decks: write cards from your notes, tidy a deck, look up what you've been forgetting, or quiz you in the chat. Reviews you do in the chat count in your schedule and sync to your devices.
What you need
- A Kide account. Create one in the app under Settings → Sign In or Create Account, with Sign in with Apple or email.
- An assistant that supports remote MCP servers (connectors): Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Muse, Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code and others.
The server address is:
https://api.trykide.com/mcp
It uses OAuth: when you connect, a Kide sign-in page opens, then you choose what the assistant may do. You never paste a password or API key into the assistant.
Connect
Claude (claude.ai, desktop and mobile)
- Open Settings → Connectors. Find Kide in the directory, or choose Add custom connector and enter the server address above.
- Select Connect, sign in to Kide and approve the permissions.
- In a chat, make sure Kide is turned on in the tools menu, then ask something like "What's due in Kide today?"
ChatGPT
- Open Settings → Apps and search for Kide. If it isn't listed for you yet, add it as a custom app/connector with the server address above (this may need developer mode on your plan).
- Sign in to Kide and approve the permissions, then mention Kide in a chat or pick it from the tools menu.
Grok, Muse and other assistants
Look for Kide in the assistant's connector directory. If your assistant lets you add a custom connector by URL, use the server address above.
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http kide https://api.trykide.com/mcp
Then run /mcp in Claude Code and pick Kide to sign in.
Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients
Add a remote (Streamable HTTP) server with the address above. For example, in Cursor's mcp.json:
{ "mcpServers": { "kide": { "url": "https://api.trykide.com/mcp" } } }
and in VS Code's .vscode/mcp.json:
{ "servers": { "kide": { "type": "http", "url": "https://api.trykide.com/mcp" } } }
Permissions
When you connect, you choose which of these the assistant gets. You can narrow or revoke them at any time in the app under Settings → Connected Agents; changes apply immediately.
| Permission | Lets the assistant |
|---|---|
cards:read | Read your decks, cards, schedule and stats |
cards:write | Create, edit, move and delete decks and cards |
reviews:write | Record reviews (grade cards) for you |
import | Add decks and cards, including importing files |
admin | Full access to your Kide data |
Assistants that support it ask you before running anything that changes or deletes data. Deleting more than 20 cards at once, directly or by deleting a deck, also asks you to confirm inside the tool.
Things to try
- "Make 15 Kide cards from these lecture notes in a new deck called Organic Chemistry."
- "Quiz me on my due Spanish cards. Show the front, wait for my answer, then grade it."
- "Which of my JavaScript cards do I keep forgetting? Rewrite the three worst ones to be clearer."
- "Tag every card in World Geography about Africa with
africa." - "How have my reviews gone this month?"
- "Export my Biology deck as Markdown."
Tools
| Area | Tools |
|---|---|
| Decks | list_decks, get_deck, create_deck, rename_deck, move_deck, set_deck_settings, delete_deck |
| Cards | search_cards, get_card, create_cards, edit_card, move_cards, tag_cards, archive_cards, resolve_conflict, delete_cards |
| Templates | list_templates, upsert_template, delete_template |
| Studying | get_due, reveal_card, record_review, undo_review, get_stats |
| Media | add_attachment, get_attachment |
| Import and export | import_file, get_import_status, export_deck |
Read-only tools are marked as such, and tools that change or delete data are marked destructive, so your assistant can decide when to ask you first.
What Kide sees
Kide only receives what the assistant sends in a tool call (for example the text of the cards it creates). It never sees your conversation, your other connectors or your files. See the privacy policy.
Troubleshooting
- "Unauthorized" or the assistant can't reach Kide: disconnect and reconnect it. If you revoked it in Connected Agents, it has to sign in again.
- Changes don't show in the app: make sure the app is signed in to the same account, then use Settings → Sync Now.
- Several Kide accounts: the sign-in page lets you pick which account to connect.
